Stephanie and Anders Fairytale Wedding in Drumtochty Castle, Scotland

Drumtochty Castle is one of my all time favourite wedding venues. A fairytale castle in Aberdeenshire, it is a wonderful place to hold a very special day in a couple’s lives. This was the second time i have been privileged to photograph a wedding at Drumtochty Castle and i was very excited about the prospects of creating some magical images for the couple.

I was booked to photograph the day in an almost purely documentary fashion, with hardly any interaction with the couple necessary, as they wanted to focus purely on enjoying the day without having to worry about what i was up to. They had also booked my good friend, the very talented Scott Hogg. to cover the more formal part of the day. It was fantastic, as i was able to focus entirely on creating the real story of the day without having to worry about the usual logistics of photographing groups etc. Having two “lead photographers”, working entirely independent of each other was a luxury that seemed to work superbly well for us all.

At my previous visit to Drumtochty Castle, i had been met with heavy rain. This time there was no rain but i was greeted by thick mist and fog. To be honest, i loved it! With the mist hanging in the trees it really added to the mood of the day and was perfect for the location!

Coverage started with meeting the guys who were on a pre-wedding shoot down the valley, before i went to the bride’s room to cover her preparations. Shooting using fast lenses and a combination of my Nikon D3s and Fuji X-Pro1 i was able to capture some amazing moments before Stephanie left to be married.

The ceremony itself took place in the pretty St. Palladius church. just down the hill, outside the castle gates. Its a really stunning church and perfect for the venue.

Stephanie arrived in the Citroen 2cv and after the ceremony, she left with Anders to the sound of a lone piper.

After the family groups and shots of the couple, it was back into stealth mode, as i slipped back into the background to capture the rest of the day as the story unfolded.

Here are a few favourite moments from a stunning Drumtochty Castle wedding.

Thank you to Scott for his hospitality; it made the trip a lot of fun!
