Puppy Photographer
Being a Fine Art Puppy Photographer is a passion of mine. Therefore, it was very exciting to be commissioned to photograph a litter of pedigree new born puppies by a leading Boston Terrier breeder, Malcolm Ellis-Leagas from Kent. As a dog photographer, i love being able to photograph tiny new born puppies. They grow so quickly (as all of our dogs have shown) and just like new born babies its lovely to be able to have images so early in their tiny lives.
The new born puppies were only a few hours old when i received the call, so i set off immediately to try and capture some beautiful images of them at the very beginning of their lives. I decided to take my Triumph Tiger 800 out for a spin, despite the cold weather to ensure i could cut through the traffic as easy as possible. It was a the 50 mile trip to north Kent.
I arrived at Malcolm’s home and was grateful for a warm drink before digging out my trusty Nikon D3s.
There were seven new born puppies! I was going to be a busy puppy photographer.
All less than half a day old! Boston Terriers are super cute, even as adults and i love the way that the puppies markings remain the same as they grow up. Even better their black and white colour makes them perfect for my signature low key black and white dog portraits.
First off i photographed the very proud dad, Bruce, a stunning Boston with a great temperament. He was happy to pose briefly for me before deciding enough was enough and walking off to another room. Then i made friends with little Astra a very pretty little lady before gently approaching Rosie, Mum to the little new born puppies. They were all safely tucked up in a large crate, mostly asleep of course.
I captured some “sardine moments” of the new born puppies all cuddled up on top of each other by their mum. Then Malcolm picked them up one by one for me to photograph using widow light to create the images below. All the images were shot in my 24-70 2.8 lens .
The biggest problem with photographing cute new born puppies is being able to leave without buying them all! Its tough being a puppy photographer!
For any breeders reading this, i am available to photograph your adults as well as being a puppy photographer who loves to produce something extra special.
