Newborn Photographer East Sussex Joseph

It was a pleasure to photograph little Joseph yesterday. He was just a week old when his parents brought him to see me for his first portrait session.

As ever, i used just the beautiful, soft window light that we have here to create soft mood images of the little baby boy. He was a star, quite chilled in fact through out.

Working in my usual relaxed manner, i shot with a single camera body, my Nikon D800 and just my 24-70mm 2.8 and 85mm 1.8 AFS lenses. These are both superb in terms of sharpness, tonality and use in relatively low light.

I like to keep props etc very simple as, in my opinion, new born sessions are all about the baby and the relationship he or she has with his or her parents at the very early days of their lives. I also find this approach allows the parents and new born to relax.

My speciality is window light portraiture and a huge plus of our studio room is the lovely bay window we have. This allows me to produce such natural softness in my images without having to resort to special studio lighting all the time. As i said earlier, for me, simplicity is the key!

Joseph’s new born session probably took a  couple of hours. A lot of the time was spent just chatting and getting to know the family while he was fed and settled. Patience and taking my time are always the best way forward when photographing new borns  (and small children and pets of course).

Below are just a handful of my favourite monochrome images from the new born shoot. Im looking forward to sharing the complete collection with the family very soon.
