The Wedding Supplier Interviews: Episode 2

The first episode of my Wedding Supplier Interviews went down very well so I thought I would share the second instalment today.

Let me introduce Carol from Cut Above Productions. I have been lucky enough to shoot a couple of weddings alongside Carol as she creates beautiful wedding films for couples.

I’m sure they find some wedding photographer difficult to work with (as I have on occasion with videographers) but we seem to compliment each other and work together to ensure the couples receive the amazing images and films they deserve from their wedding day. I truly hope this is the case from Carol’s perspective too! HAHAHA!

Peter: Please can you tell me a little about your background and how you started your business?

Carol: I started Cut Above Productions back in 2008 after a career break to have children I wanted a totally different challenge, I had always enjoyed filming things for fun and I loved weddings so I decided to indulge my passion and re-train to be a videographer. The business grew quicker than I expected so Paul and then Dan joined me so we are a team of three.

Peter: What does your business offer?

Carol: We specialise in creating beautiful wedding films. We work discreetly capturing the day as it unfolds and create a natural looking beautiful wedding film.  We can film everything from bride preparations to the first dance. The end product is a twenty  minute wedding highlight film plus the full speeches and ceremony.  Some of our packages include short montages and Instagram trailers.

Peter: What sets you a part from your competitors? Why should couples book you in particular?

Carol: Having been trading now for 12 years, we have extensive experience which reassures our customers.  We have a vast back catalogue of work that can be viewed on our website. Our approach is professional yet friendly and we pride ourselves in giving our couples excellent customer service. We work in a very subtle way letting the photographer run the day which tends to work very well and most importantly we love what we do and our enthusiasm is evident in the beautiful films that we create.  We are honoured to be recommended by 12 of the most prestigious venues in the area including Hever Castle and Gardens, Penshurst Place, The Ashdown Park Hotel and Wadhurst Castle to name just a few. We are a team and have never let anyone down and we always carry spare cameras.

Peter: Where are you based and what areas do you work in? i.e. towns/ counties etc

Carol: We are based in Tunbridge Wells and we mainly cover Kent, Sussex and Surrey.

Peter: Do you have any particular wedding story that stands out? Please share it here if you can.

Carol: We were very honoured to film Brian May’s daughters wedding which in itself was amazing but Brian wrote a song and played it as his daughter walked down the aisle which is a moment we will never forget.

Peter: WOW! That must have been fantastic! I’d love to see the clip sometime if possible!

Peter: Do you have any exciting new offerings in the pipeline for 2021 and beyond i.e. new products/services etc

Carol: We are looking to upgrade our cameras next year which we are very excited about, we are also looking at offering more Instagram trailers for our customers.

Peter: Please offer a tip or piece of advice for brides and grooms considering booking the service you offer. i.e. what to look out for/questions to ask/things to avoid etc

Carol: Look for a well established videographer with plenty of experience. It is a demanding job and not one for the faint hearted.  Ensure that your videographer has a good back catalogue of work and plenty of wedding examples to show you – not just one or two and it is very important that you like their style.

Carol: Ask if they carry back up equipment and are fully insured, we would never go out with just one camera!  Better to pick a team rather than an individual in case of illness on the day.   I suggest picking a videographer that is recommended by your venue or at the very least has worked there a few times and knows the venue well.  If you can meet or Skype with them, the more you get to know each other the better.

Also choose a videographer that your photographer knows – it is always easier if they have worked together before.

Peter: Great points! We suggest that with Wedding Photography too. There are far too many “Camera Owners” taking money for wedding photos and video who can’t deliver. I feel so sorry for the poor couples who get caught out!

Thank you so much Carol.
