Jo and Martin’s Wedding at the Smuggler’s Wheel, East Sussex.
This was a day full of fun that i had been looking forward to covering for quite a while. As a Sussex wedding photographer, I love shooting in the beautiful countryside that abounds close to my home.
The ceremony and reception took place at the Smuggler’s Wheel in Boreham Street in East Sussex. This was my first time there and i have to say it was a delightful setting for a relaxed, rural wedding with stunning views across the countryside towards the sea in the distance. The food was lovely and the atmosphere created in this 17th century, grade 2 listed restaurant was terrific.
As a couple Jo and Martin were adamant that they wanted a very chilled, fun day full of laughter. The photography was to be discreet and capture the essence of their day and i was more than happy to blend way into the background for the bulk of the proceedings. This allowed them and their guests to be themselves without having to worry about an intrusive or over zealous photographer taking over.
It was a bright but very windy day and this, of course, throws up many challenges, but i am able to think on my feet and find solutions to ensure great images.
This wedding was when i finally introduced my stunning new Fuji X-Pro 1 complete with its 18mm f2 lens into my wedding arsenal. I used it for a few shots here and there and I have to say the results were astounding. It small size and almost silent operation enabled me to blend into the shadows whenever my larger Nikon D3s grabbed too much attention from the guests.
I suggested that I capture informal shots of the couple after the wedding breakfast and we were blessed with wonderful, soft and warm evening light and better still, the strong winds dropped completely to ensure a fabulous end to the day.
Here are few images from the day.
