Herstmonceux Castle Wedding Photographer Joanna and Simon’s Wedding
Joanna and Simon live and work in Australia and so after an initial enquiry, Jo’s lovely parents came down to East Sussex to meet me and check out my portfolio. I was very pleased when Jo got in touch to book!
Fast forward to Christmas, i met Jo and Simon with their parents for a detailed pre wedding meeting as it would be a few months before they flew back into the UK for their special day.
May arrived and it was dry for their big day. Everything took place at the lovely Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex. The venue is very local to me and over the years i must have shot in excess of 50 weddings there, so i know it well.
After the bridal preparations, Jo and Simon briefly met in the Elizabethan Room for a couple of photos before their interviews with the registrars.
Then the ceremony took place in the Ballroom, which saw Jo make her entrance across the courtyard, through the cloisters and up the stairs with her father. Drinks followed back outside in the courtyard before we set off for some informal photos of Jo and Simon together around the grounds of the castle.
As it was overcast, it allowed me to photograph the requested family groups on the draw bridge. This is south facing so a sunny day means its a no go if we want well lit and flattering images. Sometimes a bit of cloud comes in useful!
The wedding breakfast took place back up in the Ballroom. After the speeches there was a lull while the room was turned around ready for the evening’s dancing and entertainment.
