East Sussex Wedding Photographer
This is one of my career favourite documentary wedding images. It was shot during a winter wedding at the amazing Kilworth House on a very cold, wet and foggy day. We didn’t get to go out at all.
During the bridal preparations in the bridal suite, I noticed the adult bridesmaids all sitting talking, in the same position as they are in the image. I saw the possibilities of the lighting and composition a few minutes before this moment appeared in front of me.
The younger bridesmaid received a gift from the bride behind me and raced to her older cousin to ask for help with the present. So I just quietly waited and watched until this moment unfurled in front of me and the light was just right on her face.
To me this is another timeless photograph that could easily be a painting from years before and, of course, no one knew i had captured this moment in time.
I love to position myself so I can use 45 and 90 degree natural lighting patterns to add shape and depth to an image. The photograph works perfectly as a black and white image that is full of story telling and atmosphere.
