Today I am going to share a few examples of my relaxed and natural family portraits. I do offer a choice of colour and or black and white photography, but my passion is for editorial style, black and white images.
Monochrome images really let you see into the soul a photo or subject and really help to keep the image timeless, avoiding distractions that strong colour elements can bring to the party. Now, please don’t get me wrong, I love colour images too, but for me the colours then need to work well together to add rather than remove balance.
To create successful black and white portraits you need to be aware of light and tones within an image. This in turn can add balance and depth to the final photograph. For me to actually see the full potential of a portrait, you need to see it as a final professionally printed photograph or piece of wall art.
Digital files have their place and are all well and good, but nothing can touch the depth, look, feel and impact of a high quality print. Of course, I only use the very best printers and wholeheartedly believe this is the very best way to view your portraits.
Black and white portraits can be very powerful but I also find them perfect for family group shots. They seem to look more relaxed and natural and will never go out of fashion in the way a colour image can.
