Family Portrait Photography Sussex

The school summer holidays have seen me getting very busy with my family portrait sessions.

I was privileged to photograph the stunning wedding of Ivan and Rachael at Battle Church, East Sussex back in August 2005. I remember it as a fun day!

Eight years later i received an email from Ivan saying that they now live and work abroad, have a family and were back home. He was wondering if i had a window to photograph their family in the short time they were together in the country. Of course i was delighted to be asked and we arranged a morning that worked for us all.

So on a blustery and showery morning i drove to Winchelsea Beach in East Sussex to meet Ivan, Rachael and their two lovely little daughters. the idea was to produce natural, fun looking images of them at this moment in time, and produce an album of the day. The wind made life “interesting” but i decided to go with it and make a feature of the movement to add dynamics and drama to some of the images.

Primarily shooting with black and white images in mind, i used the low tide, occasional back lighting from the sun and the wind to create some very special images. I also tried in vain to find a more sheltered spot for some family portraits.

All in all the shoot took about an hour and a half and fortunately, despite some menacing looking clouds the rain stayed away for the duration!

The girls in particular were a dream to photograph, enjoying messing about in the sand and avoiding getting too dirty, despite one stumble!
